Looking for SASMO Past Year Papers?

Here’s what most parents find, and a better way to use the months before the competition.

📄

Past papers alone

  • Official papers belong to the organizer and are sold as books
  • Answer keys without the “why”
  • No timer, no marking, no record of mistakes
  • Once a paper is done, it’s used up
🏁

TempatLes SASMO Try Outs

  • Original mock tests modelled on the question types of recent SASMO papers
  • Same format: 15 multiple-choice (A–E) + 10 short-answer in 90 minutes
  • Marked like SASMO: +2 / −1 in Section A, +4 in Section B
  • Step-by-step explanation for every question, mistakes saved to practise again

SASMO Try Outs by Grade

Pick your child’s grade. Each Try Out is a full 25-question paper with a 90-minute timer.

Try Outs are included in Full Access. Free accounts can do one Daily Challenge every day.

What Makes SASMO Tricky

SASMO rewards careful thinking, and it punishes careless guessing.

➖

Minus marks in Section A

A wrong multiple-choice answer costs 1 mark. Children need to learn when to answer and when to skip.

🔍

“None of the above”

Option E is often the correct answer. Kids who only match their answer to the choices get caught out.

🧩

Non-routine Section B

10 short-answer questions worth 4 marks each: cryptarithms, counting, logic puzzles and patterns that school rarely teaches.

👀

Visual reasoning

Shadows, mirror images, rotations, cube nets and counting triangles, especially in the primary grades.

⏱️

25 questions in 90 minutes

Section B takes longer. Children who spend too long in Section A run out of time for the 4-mark questions.

📈

Grade-specific papers

Every grade sits its own paper, from Grade 1 picture puzzles to algebra and number theory in secondary.

Everything Your Child Needs to Prepare

One place for SASMO practice, explanations and progress.

🎯

Daily SASMO Challenge

A short set of SASMO-style questions every day for your child’s grade: 20–30 minutes to build a steady habit.

Try a SASMO-Style Question

A Section A question: +2 if correct, −1 if wrong. Would your child answer or skip?

Number Theory · Section A

Which of the following is the largest?

To Guess or Not to Guess? The Section A Rule

With +2 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one, it depends on how many options your child can rule out.

Options ruled outChance of guessing rightAverage marks from guessingAdvice
0 (blind guess)1 in 5−0.4Skip
11 in 4−0.25Skip
21 in 30Only if time is left
31 in 2+0.5Answer

Section B has no minus marks, so your child should always write an answer there. Our Try Outs use the same scoring, so children practise this decision before the real day.

Questions from Parents

What is SASMO?

SASMO (Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad) is an international math competition organized by SIMCC for Grade 1 to 12, held every year around March–April. Each paper has 25 questions in 90 minutes: Section A has 15 multiple-choice questions and Section B has 10 short-answer questions.

Do you have SASMO past year papers?

We do not publish the official past papers: they belong to the competition organizer. Instead, our SASMO Try Outs are original mock tests written by our team, modelled on the question types of recent SASMO papers (2019–2024) and in exactly the same format, with full step-by-step explanations. For official past papers, please contact the organizer or its official book publisher.

How are SASMO Try Outs different from past papers?

Each Try Out is timed (90 minutes), marked with the real SASMO scoring (+2 / −1 in Section A, +4 in Section B), and every question has an explanation. Wrong answers go to the Mistake Notebook, and the Topic Map shows which topics need more work, which a printed past paper cannot do.

Should my child guess in Section A?

Not blindly. A wrong answer in Section A costs 1 mark, so a pure guess among 5 options loses marks on average. If your child can rule out 3 of the 5 options, guessing between the last two is worth it. Section B has no penalty, so always write an answer there.

When should we start preparing?

SASMO is usually held between March and April. Starting 4–5 months before gives time to learn the unusual question types; from February, add a full timed Try Out every one or two weeks.

Can we try it for free?

Yes. Sign up free and your child can do one quiz every day. Upgrade any time for unlimited practice, all Try Outs and full explanations.

Is TempatLes the official SASMO organizer?

No. TempatLes is an independent practice platform and is not affiliated with SIMCC or the SASMO organizers. Please register for the competition through the official organizer in your country.
